On 6 February 2025, the University of Prishtina Institute for Competitiveness (UPCO) and the Sustainable Higher Education and Research in Kosovo (SHER) Programme signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), marking an important step marking an important step towards strengthening triple-helix model in higher education sector. This collaboration aims to enhance capacity building, foster stronger connections between academia and industry, and support long-term sustainability in higher education.
The signing ceremony brought together distinguished representatives, including Mr. Besim Mustafa (UPCO Board Director), Mr. Adnan Ahmeti (Austrian Development Agency Education Manager), Mr. Avni Hajdari (Vice-Rector for Scientific Research, Projects, and Innovation, University of Prishtina), Mr. Ridvan Islami (Representative of Municipality of Prishtina), Mr. Nehat Islami (Executive Director, UPCO), and Mr. Aqim Emurli (Team Leader, SHER Programme).
Through this partnership, SHER will provide comprehensive support to UPCO by reinforcing its institutional capacities, engaging international and local experts to align its mission with Austrian best practices, and enhancing its visibility through an improved digital presence. This includes developing UPCO’s website, strengthening outreach efforts, and ensuring broader engagement with stakeholders. In addition, SHER will assist UPCO in organizing a conference to showcase its work, providing training on Horizon Europe and other funding opportunities, and advocating for UPCO’s role within the University of Prishtina and the broader higher education sector. These efforts will ensure that UPCO remains important in bridging academia with industry and driving meaningful change in Kosovo’s educational landscape.
By fostering collaboration, increasing institutional effectiveness, and strengthening the link between research and industry, this partnership is set to create a more competitive and forward-thinking higher education environment. Together, UPCO and SHER are committed to fostering a more competitive and innovative higher education landscape in Kosovo, bridging academia with industry, and ensuring that institutions are equipped to drive long-term sustainability.
